Accounts receivable factoring is one of the most commonly known terms in the business world. Businesses everywhere understand that accounts receivable factoring is the easiest and best way to obtain funding.

For years businesses have taken advantage of them factoring because of its speedy approvals and ease of qualification. But there are some dangers that lie within accounts receivable factoring. It is important to understand what these dangers are and how to avoid them so that you can reap the full benefits from your business funding. Things like varying interest rates, deceitful contract terms, instable loans and others will have a dramatic impact on your business. It is prudent for long term success to analyze and pre pare when you acquire accounts receivables factoring.

 Variable Rates

Many companies offer competitive rates, in fact a good financial company will offer rates equal or lower than traditional bank loan rates. But you must watch carefully and understand what rates are being offered. Variable interest rates can seriously affect your ultimate payout. If you are locked into a variable interest rate make sure you understand what the stipulations are and what things will affect your interest rate. Many loans programs are tied to LIBOR or the prime bank loan rate which could fluctuate and skyrocket. An exit strategy must be contemplated if you have a variable interest rate, otherwise your payments may become too difficult to handle.

Accounts Receivable Factoring Firms

Since every company has varying accounts receivables factoring programs it is paramount you choose the right financial company. There are companies out there with deceiving marketing materials that put excessive emphasis on gains and profit while ignoring asset protection and risk all together. Remember that "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is". All lenders design programs that protect them. And equally all companies offer services and products that are going to be profitable. The difference is that some companies remain fair and honest while others attempt to profiteer.

 Success

The key to succeeding with accounts receivable factoring is planning and due diligence. Researching your financial company, your businesses needs and the terms of the agreement is what will provide a good deal. Including other experienced professionals is also important.

Author: William Atkin

You will want to consult with a lawyer and your financial planner to ensure that your deal will benefit you and avoid common pitfalls of accounts receivable factoring.

Controlling your accounts receivable factoring costs is based on three main components – the time it takes to collect invoices, the volume of invoices factored, and the creditworthiness of your customers. Each of these issues is important in establishing how much you will pay to factor your invoices, but there are ways to control your costs.

Time

Part of the financial risk that incurs when purchasing an account receivable is related to the time it takes for a bill to be paid. Time is therefore an important commodity that can affect your fee: the longer an invoice is outstanding, the higher the fee. (A 60-day invoice would consequently cost more than a 30-day invoice.) You can reduce your time-related costs in two key ways: 1) Factor customers that pay their bills quickly. 2) Send invoices only when you absolutely need money. By retaining your invoices for a while after you provide the services/goods to your customer, you will decrease the amount of time a factoring company owns the account receivable, which will decrease your fee.

Volume

Volume refers to the total amount of money that is factored each month. Opposite from time, higher volume means lower fees, while lower volume means higher fees. Eventually, you can lower your fees by factoring larger dollar amounts and larger invoices. Also, long-term relationships that result in factoring large cumulative dollars can result in lower fees.

Customer Creditworthiness

Unlike a bank loan, the ability to factor is dependent on your customer’s creditworthiness, not your own. Therefore, the factoring company is assuming risk based on your customer’s credit history, which affects your fee; marginal credit means higher fees, while good credit means lower fees. The most straightforward way to decrease your fee is to factor invoices due from customers with good credit history. While most factoring companies will only factor customers who have acceptable credit, those who have better credit will be less expensive. While other variables can affect the factoring fee, time, volume and credit are the most significant components thata factoring companywill evaluate. By carefully usingaccounts receivable factoring services you can minimize your costs.

Recently I had a client contact me looking to take out a Factoring Loan. It has been some time since I had heard it referred to as this, but what he was referring to was Accounts Receivable Factoring.

Technically, Factoring is not a real loan; it is an advance on money that your company is already owned. While the accounting guidelines can be argued one way or another, the fact is, when a Factoring Loan is done, the Receivables are verified with the party that owes the money and further verifies that they are going to pay the invoices.

Under this circumstance, the funds that are advanced to the company that raised the Invoices are merely an advance on the funds that will be collected under the short term agreement.

Other people refer to Accounts Receivable Factoring as Invoice Factoring. This is accurate and is only switching out the terms Accounts Receivable for Invoice so there is little confusion over this.

The fact that the US Government is now creating an Invoice Factoring facility or Factoring Loan for many of the suppliers in the Detroit Michigan area is a very positive vote of confidence for the validity and acceptance of Invoice Factoring or the Factoring Loan not to mention the confidence that is now being generated in the economy.

The manufactures of United States and Canada have been torn apart by the recession we are currently in and many businesses have fallen due to the lack of working capital to pay suppliers, payroll and other operations expenses that the businesses need to support regardless if there are collections on their Accounts Receivable or not.

Unfortunately several companies in the manufacturing industry have not been able to make it through our recession, many of which were generational family businesses and they suffered to the point of closing down.
Financing a small business has always been challenging. Read this article to find out if factoring financing is the right solution for your small business.

Small business owners have always had a tough time obtaining financing. Simply, most small businesses just can’t qualify for conventional business loans. The requirements are too onerous – the company must have sizable assets, multiple years of profitability and many times, it’s financial statements must be audited by a 3rd party.

Most business owners consider that a business loan is their only business financing alternative. When they get turned away, they give up any hope of obtaining financing. What most small business owners don’t know is that they do have alternatives – and – many times those alternatives can work better that conventional financing.

Let’s take a common cash flow challenge. Companies that sell products or services to other businesses usually have to wait between 30 and 60 days to get paid for their services. So, they incur the expenses of delivery immediately, but then wait a long time to recoup their investment. While this is fine for companies with adequate banking reserves, it is one of the major challenges that business owners face today. As a matter of fact, few startups plan for the fact that it takes 4 to 8 weeks to get paid, which not only limits their growth opportunities, but challenges their very survival as a business.

Now, most business owners would consider that the only solution to the previous problem is to get a loan or a line of credit. But there is another option – it’s called factoring financing. Few people have heard of it, so not many owners consider it if they fail to get a business loan.

Invoice factoring offers a very simple solution to the slow payments problem. Let’s say that you sold $10,000 worth of consulting services to a company. And let’s say that they’ll pay the $10,000 in about 45 days, which is the industry average. Now, what happens if you can’t wait because you need to meet payroll or make supplier payments? Well, you could sell the invoice to a factoring company. The factoring company would buy it from you in two installments. The first installment would be for 80% of the invoice, or $8000 in the case of our example. This is paid at invoicing.

The second installment, paid to you when your client actually pays the invoice, is the remaining 20%, less a fee. Using our example, it’d be $2000 minus the cost of the factoring service.

So factoring invoices offers you the following proposition: an immediate advance of about 80% at time of invoicing, and a second advance for the reminder (less fees) at the time of actual payment.

As you can see, factoring provides the needed working capital to meet business expenses without worrying about when your client will pay. It provides you with predictable cash flow, positioning your business for growth. And qualifying for factoring tends to be relatively easy. The biggest requirement (though not the only one) is that you must have a good roster of clients.

Invoice factoring rates are the rates charged by invoice factoring companies for the services offered and cash advanced to businesses. Invoice factoring, otherwise called invoice discounting, is a business strategy by which a company’s invoices or receivables can be signed off to an outside company, thereby securing immediate cash. Invoice factoring provides ready cash, which otherwise would be available only after a stipulated period.

The service charge is usually a certain percentage of the sales factored and the service charge is calculated depending on the annual turnover of the company, the number of invoices and the number of customers. The interest charges are along the lines of normal secured bank overdraft rates. Invoice factoring rates are time-sensitive and are usually a fixed percentage of the total invoice, usually calculated in 30-day increments.

The best plan for factoring fees is that based on a per day basis. The average per day factoring fee may be between 0.095% and 0.085%, and continues to be so as long as the invoice is with the factor. Some companies charge fees on a per 30 day basis; this is not a very agreeable arrangement because there is minimum flexibility. If the customer pays after 31 days, one will be charged for 60 days. However, the interest per day scheme is advantageous because one has to pay only per day.

Invoice factoring rates vary widely from lender to lender, with commissions and incentives to lure customers. Most companies make invoice factoring quotes available within 24 hours. Alternately there are invoice factoring services which aid in locating the quotes most ideal for a particular company. It is worthwhile to avail of the services of these organizations since they can minimize the effort of hunting for an ideal invoice factoring rate.

Consider Invoice Discounting For Your Business Security

One of the key ways to make sure your business is secure, whether it’s a new business or one that’s been around for awhile, is to make sure you have the working capital you need to run it smoothly and take advantage of the growth opportunities you are interested in. This can be difficult to do when your business income is wrapped up in unpaid invoices.

Anyone who’s ever dealt with invoicing clients knows how hard it can be to get paid on time, but the livelihood of your business shouldn’t depend on this. Instead, consider working with invoice discounting companies to come up with a solid plan to get you the cash flow you need to be successful.

This should start by considering what factoring invoice discounting is and working to get the perfect balance for the capital you need. Factoring and capital invoice discounting is essentially a business line of credit that allows you to access money when you need based on the invoices you have out even if they aren’t paid yet. This is how you can make the purchases and payments you need to keep the doors open without worrying about which clients have paid and which have not.

When you look into confidential invoice discounting you have the opportunity to work in a way that doesn’t seem obvious that you are working off a line of credit, which can be more reassuring to vendors and suppliers. You work hard to take care of your business and if you need a line of credit to do it, you should feel confident in that decision. Confidentiality can do that very thing for you.

Don’t let clients be the deciding factor on when you are going to pay the bills or your employees. Instead operate your business the way you want to ensure your future success and keep your employees happy and healthy. Invoice discounting can help you keep your business on track while you learn the best ways to work with client invoices and secure your businesses future in the industry you’re in. This can be difficult thing to do, but with the right invoice discounting company behind you, you will be on your way to the success you want and deserve.

When you are in business for yourself it’s your responsibility to secure the funding that will keep your doors open and business running smoothly. If your income is based on client invoices this can be even more difficult than a traditional income format. You should never have to wait or pay business expenses or employees late because you are waiting on clients to pay. Anyone familiar with invoicing knows this payment could take thirty, sixty, even ninety days to get out of a client depending on what stresses the client is dealing with. You can’t allow this level of uncertainty to rule your business practices.

Instead put together an asset discounting factoring finance invoice plan to have access to the working capital you need to keep your business running smoothly. You can work with one of the many reputable factoring companies to do this. Invoice factoring is essentially a line of credit that allows you to use the money you have projected will come in based on your billed invoices. This is done much like other financial loans or lines of credit and is a great way to take care of expenses without waiting for clients to pay.

When you take the time to consider accounts receivable factoring, you are taking control of your business and making sure it gets run the way you want to leave a lasting, positive impression on clients, employees, vendors and investors. You need to show them that you have everything under control and are working toward your promised level of success.

This can be difficult to do when you are paying bills late or having to negotiate with employees for missed benefits or late paychecks. Avoid all this by working with a solid invoice finance factoring company to get you the credit you need to pay your expenses and employees on time.

This is how you will truly build a business you can be proud of and continue to work with suppliers who treat you right. Owning your own business is difficult and when you have to rely on unstable income sources to take care of your financial needs, it can be a scary way to run things. Instead work with a reputable invoice finance factoring company to find the working capital you need to keep running smoothly.

Invoice factoring refers to the practice where smaller companies sell invoices in order to receive money today. IN this case they do not have to wait for a credit period of 30, 60, or 90 days. Thus by selling invoices smaller companies do not create debt. This practice of invoice factoring is basically used as a finance management tool.

This practice of invoice factoring is usually adopted to avoid any loans or giving any collateral against availing any loan. The fee for invoice factoring is paid in terms of discount. This discount can ranger anywhere between 2.5% to 7%. As a result of invoice factoring the smaller companies avoid exhibiting any loans on their balance sheets plus they also do not have to pay any interest for the money taken. This results in better profit figures.

Various agencies also help small companies in invoice factoring. These agencies set up the company with the right factor for a particular factoring situation. If someone has an invoice or any receivable to be factored then these agencies come out to help in the same.

These agencies help the manufacturers, distributors, importers, exporters, wholesalers, contractors, suppliers etc equivocally. They also help truckers in construction invoice factoring. These agencies help to locate best factor for a particular situation within the area or can also help to choose from nationwide factoring companies to avail the best rates. They usually customized solution as per the clients need. To avail the services of such companies firstly a form needs to be filled out stating the type of receivables and other details required for invoice factoring. Then these companies approach the probable paying parties that avail invoice factoring. Some of these agencies assume the risk in the deal for non-recourse factoring where the client is not required to pay back.

There are different types of companies with different types of rates for factoring. Any invoices or receivables to the amount of $100,000 can be factored immediately. The average rate payable for discount in such cases is 2-5%.

Some agencies specialize for a certain category of invoice factoring. For example, some agencies indulge only in invoice factoring for medical industry. Some agencies, which cater to small and medium businesses for invoice factoring, create invoices online and receive immediate funding. They usually give a 24 hours turnaround. Other types of agencies also give funds to small businesses for their day to day operations against collateral of their invoice or purchase order. These kinds of agencies also buy mortgage notes, structured settlement annuity or medical receivables.

An explanation and history of the most popular form of business financing; invoice factoring.

 So what is Invoice factoring?

Many people do not understand this term. Invoice factoring is a very old form of financing, perhaps the oldest. For over 4000 years people have used some for of factoring. In fact, Hammurabi the king of Mesopotamia was the first the implement this system although it was in primitive form. The Romans were the first to issue actual promissory notes at a discount. The first documented use of factoring was in the pre-revolution American colonies. London bankers would advance funds to the colonies for raw materials and then collect on arrival.

Invoice factoring as we know it today is a type of business financing that allows businesses to circumvent traditional means of funding. Methods such as bank loans and private investments are less preferred because of their restrictive stipulations and their long approval times. To get invoice funding you need invoices that can be factored. In a sense you the company are selling your debt for money now.

Depending on the financing company you could be approved in as little as 24 hours. Transfac capital for instance has some of the fastest approval rates around. Even though you may lose a small percentage your debts you will not have to worry about those clients paying you because it is no longer in your hands. Invoice factoring is a popular method of financing and it is clearly not going anywhere, the only thing that may change is the rates so get your invoice funding today.
